welcome!

Thank you for taking an interest in our preschool. We are a small, private preschool located in lower Manoa by the University of Hawai`i. We have been in operation, serving the children and their families in our community since 1985. The Honolulu Christian Preschool offers a well balanced curriculum where children can thrive and discover who they are as they grow and learn in a loving, Christ-centered environment.

CURRENTLY IN TRANSITION...

As part of our efforts to prepare our children and teachers for the mixed-age groupings when we transform into a Christian Montessori school by the 2025-26 school year, we have moved our learning space to the Social Hall in the educational building. While the children are still separated into two classes led by two lead teachers and two assistant teachers, they will experience being in the same space with each other and having circle time together.

We strongly encourage and greatly appreciate it when families support their children’s self-sufficiency at home. In school, the children will learn to unpack their belongings independently, put on and take off their socks and shoes, dress and undress for toileting, set up and clean up their lunches and snacks, including opening and closing containers, and dress their cots for rest time. Encouraging children to continue these and other skills at home will support their learning experiences in school. We thank you very much for your support!

“The essence of independence is to be able to do something for

one’s self. Adults work to finish a task, but the child works in

order to grow, and is working to create the adult, the person that

is to be. Such experience is not just play... it is work he must do in

order to grow up.”

-- Dr. Maria Montessori

why we are here

The philosophy of The Honolulu Christian Preschool is based on the fact that God is the center of the universe, and that all life revolves around Him.

As a ministry of the Honolulu Christian Church, our preschool aims:

  • to bring honor and glory to God and to serve  our Lord Jesus Christ
  • to lead each child to worship, fellowship, service, and commitment to God
  • to establish a balanced program that will promote the academic, social, emotional, physical, and spiritual development of the child
  • to guide parents in child-rearing and parenthood
  • to use the Statement of Faith of the Honolulu Christian Church, and the Oriental Missionary Society Holiness Church of North America as a guideline for all teaching in the Christian faith.

As a vital ministry of the church, The Honolulu Christian Preschool provides quality care in a safe, inviting, and pleasant environment.

The goal of our ministry is to provide quality Christian training for young children by encouraging them to respond to God’s love and to apply God’s Word to their lives.

The Honolulu Christian Preschool is an essential ministry to young children and parents within the church and an important outreach into our community.

  • yanyan imamura - director

Aloha! I was born and raised in Hong Kong but have lived in Hawaii for over 30 years. I have married my husband, Marc, for 28 years and have two boys, Elvis (20) and William (13) as of 2024. Our family attends the Honolulu Christian Church and leads worship on certain Sundays for the Japanese and English congregations. I started my Early Childhood Education career fifteen years ago in the Fireflies classroom at Honolulu Christian Preschool. Since then, I have been a preschool teacher and director, teacher trainer, college instructor, and assistant director of an early education program at a university. I hold a Master of Education in ECE from the University of Hawaii at Manoa and a Master of Arts in Teaching from Chaminade University of Honolulu. I also hold an Early Childhood Credential from the American Montessori Society. Since learning about Montessori education, I have found the approach closely aligned with Christian values. I prayed for an opportunity to combine the two to create an optimal learning environment for young children. I thank God for answering my prayer and leading me back to this special place.

I grew up at Honolulu Christian Church, where I was baptized and am a member. In High School, I was doing maintenance at the preschool. In 2004, I began as an Assistant Teacher while attending school to become a teacher. I graduated with an Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education. I currently attend the Metro Christian Church, where I am in a small group and help in the Women's Ministry and Metro Kids.

I’m Tiffany Asamoto, and I’m honored to be part of your child’s early learning journey. I’m excited to create a fun, nurturing, and engaging environment where your child will grow, explore, and develop a love for learning. I graduated from Chaminade University of Honolulu with my Master’s in Teaching in May 2024. I’ve worked with children from ages 2 to Pre-K. I also have my Bachelor’s degree in Human Development and Family Studies from The University of Hawaii at Manoa. I know how important it is to create a classroom where children feel safe, valued, and encouraged to express themselves. I’ll use hands-on activities, creative play, and structured learning to support their social, emotional, and academic development. I believe that communication and collaboration between teachers and parents are crucial for your child’s success. I encourage you to reach out with any questions, concerns, or insights about your child. I look forward to getting to know you and your child and working together to make this wonderful and enriching school year. Thank you for entrusting me with your little one’s early education - I can’t wait for all the learning and fun ahead!
