All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he gives them to each one, just as he determines.

Administration/Office

Church Administration Serve the Lord through clerical talent; help in the office is always welcomed and appreciated.  Some spare time and a willingness to learn is all that’s needed – no previous experience required.  Contact Nancy Carvalho at 973-4345, office@honoluluchristian.org

Volunteers in Person (VIPs) – The VIPs meet Friday mornings from about 9:00 to 11:00 AM to prepare the worship bulletin for Sunday service.  They also help to collate church reports, booklets, and other publications as needed.  Contact Nancy Carvalho at 973-4345, office@honoluluchristian.org

Children’s Ministry

Honolulu Christian Preschool – A ministry of the Honolulu Christian Church and outreach to our community.  If you would like to work with children ages 3 to 4 as well as reach out and minister to their families, then Sayaka would gladly help to find you a suitable place to serve the Lord.  Contact Suzanne Herder at preschool@honoluluchristian.org.

Children’s Worship – Called “Treasures and Tabernacles” (TNT), the children have their own worship celebration during the 10:45 AM service.  The TNT team could always use assistance for music, drama, general supervision and teaching.  Contact Suzanne Herder at 235-2805, herders001@hawaii.rr.com

Christian Education – This ministry’s mission is that each child/youth/young adult would have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.  Characterized by deepening faith, biblical morals, and loving relationship rising up to become servant-leaders of the next generation.  Those with a heart for the Lord and desire to help children, youth and college age are encouraged to seek this opportunity. Facility Services

Gardening – Enjoy the outdoors and fresh air with the Yard Crew, a group that maintains the church grounds.  The team mows, rakes, “weed-whacks” and does general clean up on a weekly basis to keep our church looking beautiful.  Contact Brian Yahata at 263-4639, gfh-byahata@hawaii.rr.com

HCC Handymen – Like any home, God’s church needs some “tender loving care” too.  From minor repairs to changing light bulbs, any level of experience and talent will make a valuable addition to the church maintenance team.   Contact Brian Yahata at 263-4639, gfh-byahata@hawaii.rr.com

HCC Beautification – From large-scale projects like painting the sanctuary, to miscellaneous jobs like placing potted plants, this team is involved to make sure the church is as attractive as possible.  Construction, landscaping, or general contractors experience a plus!  Contact Brian Yahata at 263-4639, gfh-byahata@hawaii.rr.com

Parking – So people can attend and enjoy our worship celebrations and church events, this team’s goal is to provide convenient parking availability to the greatest extent possible, and to offer a shuttle service.  Transportation coordinators and drivers with vans are very much needed. Sanctuary Decorations – This team prepares our sanctuary in the spring for Easter, and in late November for our Christmas celebration.  Help usher in the seasons recognizing Christ’s birth and resurrection by being part of this group. Contact Brian Yahata at 263 -4639, gfh-byahata@hawaii.rr.com

 

Magnification/Worship

Drama Ministry - Enhances His message through the use of humor, drama, and realism, developed prayerfully and powerfully to His glory alone.  Provides anyone the opportunity to use their spiritual gifts to help bring the excitement of the Gospel to life through the performing arts.  Contact Laurie Hirata.

Ministry in Motion - We share God's love and express the glory of God through music and motion in worship, with each other, the church body and network of relationships and ultimately the world. We minister to the Honolulu Christian Church and sister churches. We assist in expressing a message through dance and music as part of the worship services. We serve as an outreach (hospital, care homes, home bound people, various institutions, I.e. Hale Pulama Mau, and our Senior Fellowship). Hospitality/Greeters – Welcoming and making each guest and worshipper feel loved and comfortable at our church is the goal of this group.  The Hospitality team also helps guests and newcomers get acquainted with our church by showing them around and answering any questions they may have.  The only requirement for this team is the ability to smile.  Contact Donna Mukai at 536-2535, socialbutterfly.2@juno.com

Friendship Ministry -- The Friendship team shall serve the Lord and the Church by: Seeking out and welcoming visitors, encouraging new worshippers with hospitality, providing information about church activities and programs to visitors and our church family, and to plan and coordinate activities that further brotherly kindness to serve our Lord and savior, Jesus Christ.  Contact Jolene Chang.

The Well - It is the gathering place; providing to guests, visitors and the church an area of friendly fellowship with a warm cup of Aloha.  Contact Lynne Ozaki.

Music Ministry – To provide excellent music and singing in supporting God’s people to worship, praise, and magnify God and to realize His presence.  This ministry is involved in preparing the worship music for our Sunday Celebrations.  Our goal is to support the people’s worship and intimacy with God through the avenue of beautiful and meaningful music. Celebration Creative Team – Letting God’s creative abilities flow through His people. This ministry dreams (creates) up ideas for God’s message will creatively flow to His people.  Contact Laurie Hirata.

  

Maturity/Discipleship

Adult Sunday School – Small classes of 6-10 adults gather to study God’s Word every Sunday, with a curriculum offering topics from introductory to advanced-level electives.  Faithful, available, and teachable teachers are always needed.  Contact Jean Kam at 595-3258, jean@honoluluchristian.org

Couple’s Conference - This annual conference, which usually takes place in the summer, is for the purpose of enriching marriages.  Volunteers are always needed to plan, coordinate and take care of the many tasks required to help the conference run smoothly.   Contact Jean Kam at 595-3258, jean@honoluluchristian.org

Men’s Conference – In an atmosphere of fellowship, acceptance and laughter, the annual men’s conference is specifically designed to encourage and strengthen men in their walk with the Lord.  Take a step out in faith to see how God works through a willing heart.  Contact Yukio Yukawa at yukioyukawa@cehawaii.com

 

Membership/Fellowship

Care-Group Shepherding – Our Care-Groups are small groups which meet to share, care, and for prayer. The ability to love others and to facilitate a discussion groups are the only qualifications needed to be a Care-Group shepherd or apprentice.  Contact Kumi MacDonald at 973-4306, kumi@honoluluchristian.org

Senior Fellowship – This team plans events and programs to encourage spiritual growth, connections and outreach to those in the community.  Events include excursions, luncheons, and a Christmas party.  The group also visits those in need.  Contact Ruth Oishi at 395-2141, oishir@aol.com

Youth Ministry (Jr. High, High School & College) – To provide a nurturing environment for teens & young adults to grow in Christ as they study the Bible, worship God, fellowship together, and serve others.  There are a variety of opportunities to help with Friday Youth Worship Services, Care Groups, Discipleship, Special Events, Camps & Trips.  Contact Machiko Allipule at 973-4307, machiko@hccyouth.org

Labor Day Picnic -- An annual day of fun, fellowship & good grinds.  If you feel the urge to join in to take part in making this event wonderful & inviting for your fellow brothers & sisters, or to reach out to the community, there is always a use for your time & efforts; whether it be for publicity, setting up tents/tables/music, coordinating supplies, in charge of children & adults games, coordinating foods/drinks, soliciting donations/prizes, distribution of prizes, manning the shave ice booth, heading the family softball game and clean up.  Bobbi Kanemoto at bobbi4Him@yahoo.com

Special Ministry - A ministry for special teens and adults and their families.

    Our goal is to build a Christ-centered community where our special friends will get to:
        - know the love of Christ
        - hear about Jesus in words thay can understand
        - come into a personal relationship with Jesus
        - worship and praise God
        - see themselves as God sees them; they are precious in his sight
    We meet once a month, usually on the first Friday of the month, 5:45 - 9PM.   We have dinner with the Youth Group and join them in worship.   Then we have our own time of fellowship, Bible stories, crafts, and memory book time.

Ministry/Service

Evangelism Training – Using the course entitled "Becoming a Contagious Christian" and other resources, this ministry helps prepare and equip the “ordinary” Christian to share their faith.  Additional instructors are always needed and welcome.  Contact Martin Arinaga at 625-1177, arinaga@pastors.com

Missions Team – This group oversees the mission’s ministry of the church.  They are involved in supporting our missionaries through prayer, correspondence and monthly financial giving.  They also oversee short-term missions projects, and develop mission’s policies.  Helping everyone understand Christ’s commission is the goal.   Contact Steve Kranz at 683-4439, ihakranz@juno.com

Pastoral Care/Support

All Saints Eve -- All Saints Eve is an outreach to our community. We provide a fun, energetic carnival atmosphere as an alternative to Halloween. There is plenty of entertainment, from bouncing house, put-put golf, fishing for prices, to a fully functional maze full of trap doors and a surprise around every bend. There are no limits on the activities except your own imagination. The work is just as diversified, from behind the scene preparation, to game host, food, sound support and prayer warrior.  

Crisis Fund – This team shows the love of Christ by assisting people in our community in need, by providing immediate care or assistance.  Contact Steve Kranz at 683-4439, ihakranz@juno.com

Prayer Ministry – This team’s mission is to have Honolulu Christian Church become a praying church, knowing prayer is powerful and effective, and thereby know God’s will and boldly fulfill it as individuals and a congregation.  Contact Mae Shimabukuro at 737-9068, maes@hawaii.rr.com

River of Life Mission – Restoring broken lives through rescue, rehabilitation and reintegration services, all in Jesus’ name.  300 to 400 people visit the River of Life Mission every day, seeking and finding a meal, a shower, a change of clothes, a prayer . . . a friend.  These are men, women and children, some homeless, most poor, all needy, and from all walks of life.  We refer to them as guests of the River of Life Mission.  The HCC team provides food every third Wednesday of even-numbered months.  The group normally meets at the church at 5:30pm and returns about 8:45pm.  A willingness to serve is the only requirement. Mercy/Visitation/Huggy Bear Ministry – This group visits and encourages anyone in need, whether they be lonely, sick, or in the hospital.  This is a special outreach ministry, for everyone, primarily for the elderly, sick and handicap. This ministry provides the unconditional love of Jesus to those in need. Recreation

“Heart of a Champion” Youth Basketball League – This competitive basketball league’s mission is to instill Christ-like character in youth, cultivate healthy relationships among youth, to reach out with the gospel to our network of friendships, and to give our youth the opportunity to play basketball.   “Hands-on” assistance in positions such as coach, administrative assistant, score-keeper, photographer, etc., is welcomed!  Contact Russell Higa at 973-4345, russhiga@juno.com

Men’s Softball League Team – Enjoy the competition and fellowship with other churches.  The softball team promotes fun, fellowship and the commitment to do your best, all in an atmosphere of encouragement and brotherhood. 

 

Technology

Information Technology – Making technology work for you.  We basically maintain the church network and help educate members on how to use the network for their benefit.

Sound Reinforcement – We serve by helping bring the Word and Worship experience to the people.  In a nutshell, the Sound Techs work primarily on the soundboard for church services and special events.  Contact Craig Matsumoto at ckmatz@yahoo.com.

Publishing – Possible ministry that fuses technology and the arts to make cool stuff.  Looking for artists of all types:  graphics, videographers, painters, musicians, print specialists, etc. 

Projection – Creates, prepares and presents media presentations for announcements and worship.  Working knowledge of Microsoft PowerPoint a plus.  Contact Donald Hirata at 595-3291, DHirata@pgahq.com

Video Tech – This team sets-up and operates the video camera to provide coverage of worship services in the main sanctuary.  They are also responsible for the large-screen closed-circuit television used to transform the adjacent lanai into an overflow area.
